Swimming is not permitted in the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area or The Forge: Lemont Quarries.

Activity Information

Requirements
  • Age: All ages but children 8 and under must be accompanied by a supervising chaperone 18+ years of age.
  • Minimum:  2 people to rent a double kayak, pedal boat, or canoe.
  • Maximum weight allowed for kayaks or canoes :
    • Single Kayak: 300lbs
    • Double Kayak: 450lbs
    • Canoe: 600lbs
    • Pedal Boat: 800lbs
What to Wear & Bring
  • Footwear must be with a secured heel shoe and worn at all times.
  • Life jacket must be worn at all times (provided by The Forge).
Safety

Our team will run an orientation with the equipment before you start your paddle. Life jackets must be worn at all times.

More Ways to Experience Paddlesports
  • The Forge is located in the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area, home to seven beautiful quarry lakes. Anyone is free to bring their own boats (paddle, oar, or electronic trolling motors only) to this public area located on the north side of the park.
  • Please note: The Forge is a private area and not responsible for any of these outside activities.

What are the weight requirements for each of the boats?
  • Single Kayak: 300lbs
  • 2-person Kayak: 450lbs
  • Canoe: 600lbs
  • Pedal Boat: 800lbs
Do I have to wear a life jacket?

Yes! Everyone who utilizes our boats must wear life jackets and secured heel shoes at all times.

How old does my child need to be to take out a boat?

All guests ages 8 and under must be accompanied by a supervising chaperone who is at least 18 years old.

Are you able to watch paddlesports close to the Lemont Quarry in a wheelchair?

Paddlesports can be viewed best from the Foundry deck which is the most accessible area to do so. There is also a limestone path ramp that goes down to the lower quarry shelf and the dock itself is wheelchair accessible.
